It was a cold, bleak winter up North. And that’s prompting more northerners to pack up and move to Florida.
If you missed it, take a look at Anya Martin’s article “Winter-Weary Home Buyers Heading to Florida” in last week’s Wall Street Journal.
Martin writes that home sales in the Sunshine State were up 19.6% in June compared with a year ago, as our area of Florida continues to attract people from the Northeast, South America, and Europe.
Florida figures at the top of many relocation lists. Small-business owners like the fact that Florida has no state income tax and a business-friendly environment, explained Tom Wind, executive vice president of home lending at Jacksonville-based EverBank.
Active retirees also find that their income goes much further in Florida than in high tax states like New York, Pennsylvania, or Maryland.
