“I count my blessings far more than I count my money.”
— Dolly Parton
Dolly Parton grew up poor in rural Appalachia and has become a beloved country music icon, actress, philanthropist and businesswoman, founding the theme park Dollywood in Pidgeon Forge, Tennessee. Inspired by her father’s inability to read and write, Dolly started Imagination Library in 1995, a book gifting program that gives free books to children from birth to age five in the United States and four other countries. Today, her program gifts over 1 million free books each month to children around the world. And if that isn’t enough, Dolly recently donated $1 million to Covid-19 research, which was used in part to fund Moderna’s promising vaccine.
