It’s all about economic empowerment!
Our South Florida chapter of the Financial Planning Association is sponsoring monthly financial literacy presentations for women residents at Women in Distress, a local full service domestic violence center serving the Fort Lauderdale area.
For 45 years, Women in Distress has been helping domestic violence survivors and their families.
Last month, I led a talk about kids, money, and how to raise a family on a budget. We discussed how important it is to raise financially responsible kids who can make good money decisions as they grow into adulthood.
This month, it was about Savings and Investments 101, and how to start investing for the future. Lots of good questions, especially about female entrepreneurship and tips to starting your own business.
I know that financial independence is the key to personal freedom for women. I come from a family where my mom stayed in an unhappy and dangerous relationship because she felt she did not have the financial resources to leave. Every woman and child should feel safe in their own home. Sometimes they need money to do that. That’s why, as a woman Certified Financial Planner, I’m thrilled to help support this initiative!
