We no longer take first place for the absolute worst drivers in the nation, according to a SmartAsset study cited in the Tampa Bay Times.
After “winning” the worst drivers’ award for two years running, Florida slipped out of the top spot and slid down to only 8th worst.
What makes Florida so bad in the first place? Chalk that up to many DUI arrests, uninsured drivers, car crashes, tickets, and fatalities.
So who are now the worst drivers? In 2018, that honor goes to drivers in the state of Mississippi. California and Tennessee tie for second place.
The Takeaway: All kidding aside, Florida’s driving problems explain the state’s expensive car insurance rates, so expect to pay more if you drive in Florida. Make sure to talk to your insurance agent about liability coverage, and possibly adding on a personal umbrella policy to protect you from traffic-related lawsuits. A little extra protection can go a long way in giving you the peace of mind you and your loved ones need.
