Last week, Mari got to spend three very enjoyable and productive days hanging out at the Breakers in Palm Beach as part of the Barron’s Independent Women Summit.
It’s an annual get-together for preeminent women running independent financial advisory firms, like ours.
Yes, we get to meet and talk shop with other women just like us, but we also get to hear from an amazing and inspiring group of women entrepreneurs like Lisa Sun (CEO and Founder of women’s clothing firm Gravitas) and Julie Rice (Co-Founder of SoulCycle and partner at WeWork), as well as thought leaders like Bridget Brennan (author of Why She Buys, and other leading works on the psychology of women consumers). It helps us better understand the needs of the women clients we work with, and run our businesses more effectively.
I can’t tell you how wonderful it is to catch up with other women advisors from across the country. Some, I’ve known for years, even if we only manage to connect once a year at events like this. We talk investments, we talk succession plans, we talk HR challenges, but we also talk kids, pets, relationships, vacation plans, and everything in between.
Every year, I come back to the office with a whole list of creative ideas and great new initiatives. Now if I can just find the time to put them into practice!
The Barron’s event wouldn’t happen without the financial and other sponsorship of organizations like Barron’s, Schwab, Fidelity, and TD Ameritrade, so thank you all for your tireless support of women advisors (still a small, small sliver of the industry) and especially independent Registered Investment Advisors like us (RIAs) who believe that independence allows them to offer the objective, honest and non-conflicted advice that our clients desperately want.
