Balancing Being Mom With Work: Never An Easy Task

Even for celebrities like Serena Williams, balancing motherhood with work is not an easy task

Work? Kids? Family? Friends?

How is it possible to balance it all?

It’s not easy, as we all know.

I still have vivid memories of waking up at the crack of dawn, getting dressed for work, packing lunches, getting two toddlers ready for day-care drop off, then making it to an early morning work meeting, only to do it all again (in reverse) at the end of the day, and repeating day after day. It can be back-breaking!

I always tell myself that if I had to do it all again, I would try to get more help, so it wouldn’t be quite such an impossible task. Many moms out there (not to mention the dads!) are undoubtedly telling themselves the same thing.

But here’s proof that even with all the help in the world, balancing children, careers and other callings is not easy.

New moms like Serena Williams and Cardi B are finding that whatever choices you make, they are never easy. “Whether stay-at-home or working,” says Serena, “finding that balance with kids is a true art.”

Many women are having children in their 30s or early 40s. That’s a time when their careers, if they are working, are in full swing, and juggling babies, older children, relationships, family and work can be overwhelming.

No surprise, then, that research done at Princeton and Yale University found that “the financial and logistical challenges of motherhood come as a shock to some new moms,” apparently even those, like Serena and Cardi B, who seem to have it all.
